#momwisdom : Maya Tamimi

Ibu Maya was my first boss in the office. I learned not only about leadership from her, but also about parenthood. I love how she always celebrate little progress of her three kids, Aulia ( 18 year-old), Husna ( 13 year-old) , and Mahar (11 year-old), and how she foster their talent. She is my parenthood guru. I love how she describe her momwisdom stories, it full of love and beautiful.

1. Describe motherhood in 3 words.

A Gift, Love , A responsibility

2. How has becoming a mother changed you?

My parents always told me about the importance of being an independent and a responsible person. As the youngest in my family the most thing I prioritized was to be responsible of what I did, chose, and live the most of it. Becoming a mother made my priority change. I should not only responsible for myself but also to responsible for the life of other, that is my children. Being a mother also made me realized that I could be anything I want as according to your children you are their superhero. Hehehe. Aulia made me believed that I’m a very good party organizer, while Husna made me realized that I’m a great cupcake maker. Mahar always assumed that I’m the expert of transforming Optimus Prime from the truck mode into robot mode and vice versa. And off course this also applied for Bumblebee, Ratchet and the autobot gank.

3. What is your parenting philosophy?

Lead by example. A mother is a facilitator for the kids to grow. I also discuss with my children that sometime Bunda does some mistakes, and making mistakes is a fact of life. The importance is to realize and learn from your mistakes as soon as possible and fix it as much as possible.

4. What values do you want your kids to have until they grow up? And, how do you foster those values?

Integrity, responsible, put their best effort on everything, and caring. Because great power come with great responsibility

5. What is the biggest challenge of being a mom? Any tips for new mom?

Try to be a perfect mom. This could be depressing. Set your standard, influence other to follow your rule, but at the end of the day, do not forget to have fun in the process.

6. What is your biggest fear of raising a child?

I am afraid that I did not facilitate their development to the fullest

7. What is your survival mantra?

Motherhood is already there since the beginning of human’s history. Many people is in the same position with me, from Papua to the US. So, relax and allow time to think any solution needed.

8. How do you squeeze your time for me time?

Anytime, when the world surround me is in peace. It could be before subuh time, or Saturday morning.

9. What is the most unforgettable memory so far?
A lot, these to name a few..
o Bed time story moments with story that could be inspired from anything. Fairies and Fables is the most favorite topic. Aulia sometime took the role of telling the stories, and I’m so proud of them.
o Aulia’s first ‘R” word. It was: ‘tuRun”, because we were so worried that she could not spell out the letter ‘R”.
o When Aulia called home, from her dormitory in Magelang and saying: “Bunda benar deh mendidik aku seperti itu. Aku baru ngeh sekarang. Terima kasih ya Bun.”
o Making 60 cupcakes in a night for Husna’s birthday, because Husna said: Bunda bisa!!
o Sesi- sesi membuat kue bersama Husna, because she just loved it.
o Mahar’s first smile. The sweetest ever

10. Having three kids, being a working and entrepreneur mom, how do you manage your time?

The key is to know your part in every other role of your life, lead the agenda and empower others. I’m blessed to live close to my parents and in law. Many parenthood support by them during my kid’s early age. I also empowered my domestic’s assistants and delegate some of the work to them. Also it is important to align my agenda with the kid’s agenda, especially on Saturday morning.

11. How do you celebrate your kids different character?
Recognize their character and facilitate their development accordingly

12. Any tradition that you implement in the family?
Every member in the family has to respect each other. The older member of the family is expected to lead the younger ones. But, on any different topic, ones could be the leader regardless of his/her age. For example, Aulia is really good at picking restaurant, while Husna pick our holiday destination, and Mahar can also pick the movie that we will watch together. They can take turns for different topic.

13. How do you develop a loving and caring environment in the family? Especially between siblings.
Start the day with positive and happy tone as much as possible. Be consistent with rules in the house. Not always works, but never give up trying..

14. How you teach your children about respecting their parents?
Show them how you respect your parents, because children may copy what you do.

15. Tell me one thing that you want your children to know about you
The presence of my children is the greatest gift from God. I love them so much, and I did my best to ensure that we all will meet again in Jannah. Bunda always want to give the best for them, and the way I raised them is to ensure that they can become a leader for themselves and that they presence in this world is also a gift for the world.

#momwisdom : Alia an Nadhiva

agni mama 1

Alia is my very best friend who really closes to my heart. She knows the very deep side of me, my secret and my wildest personality. We witness each other transformation in life, including the motherhood stage. And I choose her to be my first mom to be interviewed, because I know she always true to herself. And also because she is so special and I believe her thought on motherhood also special too.

Alia is a freelance writing, i’m her biggest fan! she lives in South Jakarta with her husband Mono, and her lovely daughter Agni (18 mo)

How has becoming a mother changed you?
At first I thought a lot. Seperti para ibu pada umumnya, I put my baby’s needs above everything else, including my own needs. Before I had my baby, I was a very content person. I was very good at managing myself, my needs, my comfort, my happiness. After Agni came, everything changed drastically. Walaupun sebelum melahirkan gue udah banyak baca tentang motherhood, and I kinda knew what to expect, I was still overwhelmed by the experience. Tapi lalu dijalani aja, one by one, focus on the present moment, dan lama2 yg awalnya terasa berat jadi biasa.

Some people say a woman loses her identity once she becomes a full-time mom, because all she does and thinks is taking care of her child, her husband, the house, and then — when there is still time left — herself. I can’t say I disagree with this. It’s impossible to think about yourself when there are a lot of things to be done. But hey, life is not always about having the comfort that we desire. So, I just see the situation as a path that I have to go through in order to raise my kid and build my family in the best possible ways.

What is your parenting philosophy?
Always remember that every decision that we make for our child, is solemnly in the best interest of the child and not for any other reason. Untuk hal sederhana maupun yang besar. Misalnya gini, anak gue kan sekarang lagi dalam fase eksplorasi, jadi dia suka bongkar-bongkar (lemari baju, alat masak, buku, dll). Naturally, I don’t want her to make a mess because I don’t like it when everything is disorganized.

What values do you want your kids to have until she grows up? And, how do you foster those values?
I hope my daughter will grow up to be a brave person and believes that nothing is impossible in this world. That the sky is the limit. That there is always options and that we are in control in making our own destiny.
Are you a spontaneous or structured mom? How does this affect your daughter’s personality?
Definitely structured, hehe. In term of raising a baby, I think structure is important because I am trying to form her habit. Therefore, for me it is fundamental for my daughter to be doing the same routine every day at the same time.

What is the biggest challenge of being a mom? Any tips for new mom?
After becoming a stay-at-home mom for almost 2 years, I think being a mom is all about management. Before having a daughter, I am a very well managed person. I could manage myself fine and mostly comfortable with my arrangements. After my baby was born, everything was so overwhelming. I started from scratch in terms of managing the baby, the house, my husband, and myself. There are many theories on how to make them work, and I’ve read many of them, but still it was more complicated in practice. Kind of frustrating at first because I like order. But I guess that’s the challenge. As the person in charge of everything at the house, a mom should be able to prioritize, to share enough time and energy for any dealings, to manage everything.

For new moms, the challenge is probably adapting to the new life in which her needs are usually at the bottom list of priority. Sounds sad? Haha… Tapi enggak kok, lama-lama akan terbiasa

What is your biggest fear of raising a child?
My biggest fear is if I won’t be able to provide her with many options so that she could have as many chances in exploring things. Every parent wants what’s best for their kids and I hope I will never get tired or give up in trying to deliver her the opportunities.

What is your survival mantra?
The little things matter. Being a full-time mom means doing mundane tasks every day, especially those concerning to the child’s needs. It’s challenging having to do the same routine every single day for years to come. One might get bored and fed-up. But I believe those ‘unimportant’ activities are just as important as the big decisions parents make so I never lose heart on them.

How do you squeeze your time for me time?
Right now, me-time for me is sitting down in quiet, having a cup of coffe while the baby is asleep, probably for about half an hour because there are always chores or jobs to do. Occasionally I go out and leave the baby with my husband, but usually I still think about her, I still make plans for her (what’s for her dinner, has she been fed yet, has her diaper changed, etc).

What is the most unforgettable memory so far?
Giving birth, hehe… That is probably the single time I’ve ever felt so much in pain, so strong, and extremely happy

What will be your advice to your child when someday she failed doing something?
That it’s ok to fail. When you fail, it just means that you are given another opportunity to re-do something in different way(s).

Tell me something unique about your daughter?

She is currently 18 month and what’s fascinating about her is that she’s so different from her father and I. She’s a very active little girl, cheerful, chatty, funny, super friendly with other people, and so so adorable. Sementara gue sama suami kan pendiam..

How do you deal with difficult time like tantrum?
Up until now, I don’t think my daughter ever throw a tantrum. It’s another thing that fascinates me. Kadang dia ‘bertingkah’ sih, tapi levelnya masih sangat wajar. Biasanya gue ajak omong, tanya kenapa dia begitu, maunya apa, terus dikasih tahu kalau punya keinginan bilang aja nggak usah pake rewel/maksa.

Tell me one thing that you want your daughter to know about you.
Yang pasti I want her to know that I will love her no matter what choices she makes in the future. That she can always come to me for anything, that I accept her for what she is, that I will be her best best friend in the world, hehe..

Describe motherhood in 3 words.

Amazing, overwhelming, patience.

Any parenting paradigm that you want to break?
I have one kid who’s only 18 mo, so not much of experience there, hehe.. Gue banyak baca tentang ilmu parenting, yang konvensional maupun yang modern. Tapi kayaknya gue nggak menganut salah satu.

#momwisdom: a personal project

We should do this more often, simple joy, pure happiness..

Mengintip Bawah Laut Bunaken

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Perjalanan kemarin terus terang membuat saya ketagihan.

Silahkan lihat disini

Pudding Roti Tanpa Telur

5 buah sari roti tanpa pinggiran

1 sendok makan mentega yang dilelehkan

2 telur (saya ganti dengan 2 sendok flaxseed dicampur 6 sendok air hangat diaduk hingga mengental)

1 cup susu cair

1/2 cup gula putih

1/2 sendok teh kayu manis bubuk

1/4 sendok teh vanilla bubuk

Cara memasak :

Selamat mencoba!
